The Coin Shooters of San Diego was founded in 1974 and is one of the oldest Treasure Hunting clubs in the country. The Coin Shooters of San Diego is a non profit organization that belongs to, and supports, regional and national treasure hunting organizations. The Club participates in regional treasure hunting shows and competitions.
The purpose of our club is to:
Support the Club and the hobby of metal detecting,
Teach our members about historical facts,
Promote the exchange of information in the finding, collecting and preserving of coins, jewelry, relics and artifacts,:
Monthly Meetings: are normally held on the fourth Tuesday of the month. Doors open at 5:00 and the meeting starts at 5:30 PM. Note: In December there is a Christmas Party instead of a meeting. Check the Events page for exact meeting dates, monthly hunts, Christmas Party and any special events.
Events: May include, Ice Cream Socials, Pot Lucks, Bake Sales and Swap Meets as part of the regular meeting. Guests are always welcome at the monthly Meeting.
Club Newsletter: The “Digs & Scoops” is published monthly and emailed to all club members. It contains a President’s Page, Minutes of the last meeting, articles pertaining to treasure hunting or collecting, and information about coming events. The newsletter can also be downloaded here
Monthly Hunt: club sponsors a monthly hunt, on one weekend of the month, where the members meet at a set time and location. Training and the proper use of metal detecting equipment is available on all club hunts. A prize is awarded on each hunt for the Best Find. Guests are invited to the Monthly Hunt, but are not eligible for the Best Find Prize.
Mini Hunts (seeded hunts): The club sponsors a Mini-Hunt/seeded hunt, twice a year. A Mini-Hunt is a competition where coins and tokes are seeded (buried), tokens are redeemed for prizes.Some of the Mini-Hunts will include a picnic after the hunt is over. Visitors/Guests are welcome. The cost of the Mini Hunt is usually around $20.
Membership: The club offers a individual membership for $20 a year or a family membership for $30.00 per year that covers immediate family members, and children under the age of 18, living in the home. Click here to download an Application

Most Unusual. Our catchall category! If your item fits better elsewhere it should be placed there. Tell us what you know about your find. Age, type of metal, what makes it un-usual! Examples: a brass boat rudder, a meteorite, a toy, who knows!
Relic. Must be at least 50 years old! Describe the item.
Best Foreign Coin . What is it? Is it dated? Does it have value? Type of metal? An undated gold Roman coin can go here!
Best Token. What is it? Is it dated? Does it have value? Type of metal?
Oldest Dated Coin. The date must be visible with a loop. We have to be able to read the date!
Monthly Find Competition Rules Entering Your Find

Best Other Jewelry. Non-precious metal items that were made as personal adornment items or for display purposes.
Silver. Items stamped .800 and above or sterling. You can also have an item tested and certified. Silver plated items belong in Other Jewelry.
Gold, Platinum and Palladium. Items stamped with a claim as to the metal content, or tested and certified. Counterfeit items will be removed by the judges. Gold plated non-precious metal items belong in the Other Jewelry category.
Best overall. What was your favorite item from all of the other categories? It may be the most valuable find, or it may not! Examples: The gold ring with diamonds, and a Civil War sword
VOTING. Vote for one item in each category by circling the letter on the voting slip that corresponds with that item’s envelope. Vote once for your personal choice as to the best overall find from among the 9 preceding categories. Each winner will receive a silver quarter. Each winner from the nine categories will be awarded 1 point. The points are accumulated throughout the year. The person with the most points for the year will be awarded Metal Detectorist of the year trophy. Their name and year is engraved on the trophy and it is passed on from winner to winner every year at the Christmas Party. The annual Christmas Party is usually held at a restaurant and where awards, are presented.
