In November I had my first two ring recoveries. I wish to share with you the delight that I felt in these recoveries it was not like anything that I could have imagined. Even to day after weeks of the finds I feel really good about being able to reunite these treasures to their owners.
The first ring hunt I got wind of was on a FB MD website. It turns out that a friend of the owner posted it. The ring was lost by a young mad while playing baseball at a field owned by Our Lady of Perpetual Help. One lady looked for the ring on two occasions but was unable to find it. I was intrigued and wanted to give it a try. It took a bit of coordination to access to get the field opened, once arranged I recruited the help of Mark and Frank to assist in the hunt. The owner was out of town was not able to meet us at the location but the lady that previously looked provided a detailed map indicating the location that it was lost. Mark, Frank and I meet at the Baseball/Soockerr field and made a plan to grid out the area. I couldn’t believe it but I quickly found the ring within 30 minutes. The ring was given to the owner by his father who served in the Navy as a submariner. The father had received a medal and had it custom made into a ring. The owner was devastated that he had lost it. He was so delighted to receive the ring.
The second ring recovery that was recovered was lost by a surfer in La Jolla Shores. I received a noticed from Liz who found out about our group online. I contacted Liz and arranged to have her husband meet us during a low tide, to show us as close to possible where it was lost. I sent out an email to the Coinshooters asking anyone that had the time to meet to assist with the hunt. Rick and Mark joined to assist with the hunt. Soon after we meet meet up the search began. We started off by going in the water up to our knees, even though it was low tide. Rick, Mark and I worked on girding off the area. I would walk from the high tide mark to about knee deep and back and forth. I couldn’t believe it but I found the ring in about 30 minutes out of the water in wet sand. I called the guys over to show them and then Rawli came over and I gave him the ring. He was so over joyed he started to tear up and gave me a big hug. Mark and I continued to hunt and Rick had to run off to college. In addition to the ring I also found a dive watch. Lis and Rawli and I were so delighted and grateful for our assistance they gave a very generous donation of $500 to the club.
Earlier this year I found my 1st gold ring. After some research it was determined to be a gypsy ring, 22k. It had small nuggets of gold going around the top of the ring. I was told that the nuggets could be broken off and used instead of cash. I posted about this ring in the FB group La Jolla Lost and found and on Craig’s List. I was unable to find the owner.
When I find a valuable item I will do what I can to find the owner, to me this is more valuable than selling the item. Of course I won’t turn down any tips or donations to help pay for my habit or I mean hobby ;).
